Exploring Perast's Hidden Treasures
While in Perast, there are a few must-see sights that need to be on your itinerary. Start by exploring the main square, where you can soak in the atmosphere and learn about the town’s history. Don’t miss the chance to visit the Church of Saint Nicholas, a stunning example of Baroque architecture.
Indulge your taste buds with delicious local cuisine at waterfront restaurants, offering fresh seafood and Mediterranean delights. Take strolls along the waterfront to enjoy the calm crystal-clear waters and mountains that surround the Bay of Kotor. While there’s no sandy beach here, you can still go for a swim by using ladders on the terraces. There’s nothing more refreshing than to dip in these waters on a hot Summer day.
Get on a taxi boat to visit the iconic Our Lady of the Rocks Church. Admire the breathtaking views as you cruise across the bay and explore the islet’s beautiful church and museum. Don’t forget to take in the stunning panoramic views of Perast from the islet and when returning by boat, it’s truly the perfect sight.
Another activity that you must include during your stay in Perast is visiting the Blue Cave. You can take a 2-hour private or a small group tour. You will navigate further out on the Bay of Kotor until you reach the location of the Blue Cave. Here, you will admire some rock formations forming a cave over blue waters and enjoy a lovely swim there.
As part of the tour, you will also see the Mamula Island Resort, which used to be a former maximum-security prison turned into an exclusive luxury resort.
For a bit of history, the last stop on the tour is the Submarine hiding tunnels used during the Yugoslavian wars. You will also be able to spot the town of Herceg Novi, which is another recommended stop on the Bay of Kotor. It’s a good idea to book this tour in advance as it is in high demand during the Summer months. You can conveniently book in advance on Get Your Guide.

For the perfect blend of comfort and charm, I highly recommend staying at the beautiful boutique hotel, Vila Perast. Located waterfront, it’s perfect to get a room with a view of the sea and wake up to that. The hotel itself is an icon in Perast, housed in a UNESCO XV-century palace converted into a modern and stylish hotel. With a welcoming staff and a delicious breakfast featuring local pastries, cheeses, and cured meats, Vila Perast offers a truly memorable stay in this enchanting town.
Something to Know Before Visiting
Keep in mind that Perast is a pedestrian town, so if you’re arriving by car, you will have to park in one of the designated parking areas at the entrance of town. Simply contact your hotel upon arrival, and they’ll arrange for a club car to transport you to your accommodation.
I hope that, just like me, when you visit Perast, you’ll carry with you memories of relaxing days by the sea, enjoying slow living and recharging your soul. Perhaps, you’ll also find yourself wishing to return to this corner of Montenegro, where time stands still and worries fade away.
